This is a reminder that on Nov. 10, the Northern Kentucky Counseling Association will offer another workshop day with two different sessions available in the morning and afternoon. Dr. Connie Callahan from EKU’s Counseling Dept. will present both sessions, which will be held at Gateway’s Edgewood campus. (Directions to the campus are on the NKCA website at www.poorehouse.org/nkca/.)

Cost of the sessions: $20 for one; $35 for both. You may register on the day of the sessions, but if you plan to attend, please contact Cindy Sproehnle by Nov. 8 at 442-1159 or cindy.sproehnle@kctcs.edu. In your message, let her know which session/sessions you plan to attend.

 

Nov. 10 Workshops

Morning Session:  8 to 11

Topic: The American School Counselor Association’s Standards for School Counseling Programs.

Description: Dr. Callahan will review ASCA’s National Model, which was designed to help schools and school districts to

  • Establish the school counseling program as an integral component of the school’s academic mission
  • Ensure every student has equitable access to the school counseling program
  • Identify and deliver the knowledge and skills all students should acquire
  • Ensure that the school counseling program is comprehensive in design and is delivered systematically to all students

EILA Hours offered: 3

 
Participants will do lunch on their own from 11 to 12 a.m.

 



Afternoon Session: 12 to 3 - (Also at Edgewood Gateway Campus)

Topic: Bullying

Description: Every school day, students are teased, intimidated, harassed, and hurt by other students.  Bullying is a big problem, and we can do something about it. This session will focus on bullies, victims and bystanders. Dr. Callahan will present various prevention and intervention strategies to use in our schools and with our clients.

EILA Hours offered: 3 to 6 (3 for actual session; 3 additional hours possible for independent study work)

 



Dec. 8: Luncheon at Ft. Mitchell Country Club

Details regarding the menu and cost will be sent later in November. Retired counselors will be recognized at this event, so please invite any with whom you still have contact. After lunch,  Officer Tom Collins from the Newport Police Dept. will discuss his experiences as a resource officer in the Newport schools.
